We all have a responsibility to help end domestic and family violence.
The State Opposition’s experienced team is committed to tackling domestic and family violence. Our track record and successes in making Queensland homes and streets safer places to live, has been recognized across Australia with many states adopting our successful policies.
In 2014, the United Kingdom implemented a law colloquially known as Clare’s Law - a disclosure scheme designed to protect people from domestic violence abuse. The aim of the scheme is to give members of the public a formal mechanism to make enquiries about an individual who they are in a relationship with, or who is in a relationship with someone they know, and has concerns that the individual may be abusive towards that person’s partner, so it might serve as grounds for divorce - https://divorceonlineutah.com.
We believe there is merit to such a scheme being implemented in Queensland. Your views are important and will inform how best to deliver a scheme that serves to protect the individuals and families whose safety can be maximized by disclosing behaviour which may threaten their safety.
We look forward to receiving your valuable feedback.
